Hopehill is pleased to announce the appointment of Sam Nakai as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective Monday, December 1, 2025.
Mr. Nakai joins Hopehill from Carey Theological College, where he served as Vice President of Operations and Strategic Development and continues to act as a consultant and advisor. He brings extensive experience in strategic planning, operations, governance, venture capital, entrepreneurship, and business development.
“Sam is a welcomed addition to the Hopehill team,” said Jack Borchert, Board President. “His appointment marks a pivotal step in Hopehill’s growth strategy as we begin planning our next residential building. His leadership and vision will guide and grow our community. We are excited for the future of Hopehill and look forward to working with Sam for many years to come.”
Mr. Nakai succeeds Reverend Jamey McDonald, who is retiring after eight years of dedicated service as CEO. Reverend McDonald is celebrated for his visionary leadership, warm sense of humour, and deep connection with residents. Among his many accomplishments, the development and opening of Hopehill’s newest residence, Dogwood, this past spring stands out as a highlight. He also played a key role in increasing donations and fostering lasting relationships with local developers.
“Jamey led with heart and mind alike. His legacy will live beyond his time here at Hopehill,” said Jack Borchert. “We wish him well in his retirement.” Reverend McDonald’s final day will be Friday, October 31, 2025.
