Rupert redevelopment

Rupert Redevelopment Project

Built in 1964, the Rupert Building is our oldest residence. Since its opening, the Rupert has been home to over 850 residents from all walks of life. Within the next five years, the Rupert will have reached its maximum lifespan, requiring increased maintenance and extensive repairs. We want to use this opportunity to not only rebuild the Rupert building with additional independent living units, but also expand our services to include resident support services, accessible shopping for seniors with reduced mobility, and community space.

Within the next five years, the Rupert will have reached its maximum lifespan, requiring increased maintenance and extensive repairs. We want to use this opportunity to not only rebuild the Rupert building with additional independent living units, but also expand our services to include a resident support services, accessible shopping for seniors with reduced mobility, and a community space.

We will expand the Rupert building with a range of new units, growing our community from 350 to 500 residents. We will provide a mix of one bedroom and studio apartments with appropriate affordable rent for each.

For years, our residents and their families have expressed a desire for Hopehill to offer on-site health services to support seniors with reduced mobility. The new Rupert building will be designed to include a full doctor’s office and pharmacy.

Additionally, we want to support our residents’ quality of life by providing accessible shops and services right outside their front door.

Many of our residents find great joy in engaging with community programs and services. We want to expand these opportunities by inviting the community in to use our space with programs and events that both residents and community members can enjoy.

An invitation from our CEO, Jamey McDonald.

When my wife and I (and our 3 young children) were in seminary preparing for pastoral ministry, we lived on $50 of cash weekly. $35 went to groceries. $5 went to McDonald’s on Friday nights (entertainment for 5 folks!). $5 went into our gas tank. And on Sundays, $5 went into the offering plate.  I know God didn’t need my $5, and it was small in comparison to what others would/could do, but when I gave, a rush of pleasure came to me because I realized “it is more blessed to give than it is to receive”.

Now more than 40 years later, I still get a thrill when I give. The numbers have changed but the results are the same. Perhaps you already know that? It’s not just true for me, it’s true for every one of us. When we give, we are in a very blessed spot.

Could I encourage you to think about contributing to our campaign to raise funds for affordable housing for seniors in Vancouver?  Most of the folks we deal with live on less than $30k per year. We rent them safe, clean, warm, studio or one-bedroom units for about 30% of their monthly income.

Beyond an affordable place to live, they experience the love of Jesus through staff, neighbours, and our chaplains.  For many, it’s their first encounter with people that care deeply for them, and for some, it is eternity-changing.

Over the next 5 years, we hope to build 2 buildings to bring nearly 150 additional affordable units to Vancouver. If you’d like to meet to talk about how your gift can help us do that, give me a call. My personal number is 604-255-7707 ext 106. My email is [email protected]. Our total need is $5.2 million, which is huge, but our God is bigger than our needs. Thank you!

Sincerely,

“It is more blessed to give than it is to receive.”
