The Ministry of Health, working with the provincial health officer, has developed updated guidelines to support visits between family members and residents of long-term care homes and seniors’ assisted living facilities. Please review and understand these policies as they apply to all visitors of the Cedars building. Click here to review the updated visitation policies.
We are happy to be able to report that the Cedars remains COVID free.
We are also aware that the Government of BC has announced that they will be allowing one designated visitor per unit in Assisted Living homes.
Only one person can apply to be the designated visitor for each unit.
The application to become a designated visitor is now available at the link below. Or. you can pick up an application at the main entrance. Once your application has been approved, you will receive an email confirming that you can book a visit.

If The Cedars has an active outbreak, all visits will be cancelled.
Please note that ALL visitation in the of the outdoor areas on The Cedars property will be under the same visitor restrictions allowing only the designated visitors and Cedars residents. This means that only designated visitors and residents at the Cedars may visit in our outdoor areas at this time.
PLEASE DO NOT VISIT IF YOU HAVE ANY ILLNESS SYMPTOMS.
These include fever, cough, diarrhea, runny nose, sore throat, headache, muscle ache or fatigue or other cold symptoms.
Designated visitors will be required to clean your hands before and after visiting using soap and water or hand sanitizer.
They will also be required to be screened prior to entering the building or visiting in the outdoor areas on The Cedars property.
Designated visitors will be required to bring a mask and to wear it for the duration of the visit.
When visiting, designated visitors must maintain a 2-meter distance from all staff and residents of The Cedars.
You will be informed where the assigned visiting areas will be when you arrive at The Cedars as this may change from time to time.
Please do not gather near and block the main entrance. Our staff and residents need the space to enter and exit the building safely.
For other social activities and outside appointments, the BC Center for Disease Control guidelines suggest that Assisted Living clients can engage in social and external activities that are aligned with general public health guidance.
Current information suggests that older people with chronic health conditions are at higher risk of developing more severe illnesses or complications and should take the measures to protect themselves including avoiding large gatherings and staying away from other people who are ill. They should maintain safe physical distance at all times and wear a non-medical mask when in enclosed spaces where safe physical distances cannot be maintained.
If you wish to take your family member out, please limit the number of people in your car. Ideally, there would only be the driver and The Cedars resident.
If you need to speak to the nurse on duty, please call (604) 251-4114, extension 104 and leave a message with your concern. A nurse will respond at their earliest convenience.

Visitation Policy
- Under these new guidelines for social visits, residents can visit with one designated family member or friend*.
- *Facility staff/operator can approve a change to the designated visitor under extenuating circumstances; for example, if the visitor moves away or becomes ill and is unable to visit.
- One hundred percent of long-term care and seniors’ assisted living facilities have safety plans in place and are offering family/ social visits
- We have heard questions from some residents and their families, asking for further clarification around essential and social visits at long-term care and assisted living facilities.
For all visitors:
- You will be screened for signs and symptoms of illness, including COVID-19, and possible exposure to COVID-19, prior to every visit.
- You will be provided with a mask and required to wear it for the duration of your visit.
- Please practice hand and respiratory hygiene (cough/sneeze etiquette), and maintain two-metres of physical distance where possible.
If you are an essential visitor:
- You may not need to schedule your visit in advance. If there is another family member or friend providing essential care, only one visitor is allowed at a time*.
- *Except for palliative and end-of-life care, where more than one visitor may be allowed at a time.
If you are visiting for social reasons, you need to:
- Book your visit with facility staff in advance,
- Socialize in designated areas identified by facility staff, and
- Bear in mind that visits are not allowed if there is an active COVID-19 outbreak at the residence.
- If you have any questions, concerns or need assistance with the facility’s safety procedures, please contact the number listed on the poster at the main entrance(s).
- In addition to visits in person, we also encourage you to stay in touch with your family or friend at the facility either virtually or remotely.
- As B.C. works to continue “flattening the curve,” we will continue to update the guidelines to ensure the health and safety of patients, residents, staff, and visitors.
