Investing In The Future of Hopehill
For over 65 years, Hopehill has provided housing and care for Vancouver seniors on a fixed income. We believe that wellness and ideal living consists of much more than a place to call home. We are a community where life can truly be lived.
Hopehill’s staff and residents plan a variety of weekly and monthly events including knitting, games, Bible studies, and more.
Hopehill has several sites for our residents to plant seeds, nurture flowers, grow vegetables and savour the fruits of caring for their own gardens.
In honour of the Christian faith traditions of our founders, we offer weekly chapel services in English and Cantonese. We also have two on-site chaplains who speak English and Cantonese.
Our Future
Built in 1964, the Rupert Building is our oldest residence. Since its opening, the Rupert has been home to over 850 residents from all walks of life. Within the next five years, the Rupert will have reached its maximum lifespan, requiring increased maintenance and extensive repairs. We want to use this opportunity to not only rebuild the Rupert building with additional independent living units, but also expand our services to include resident support services, accessible shopping for seniors with reduced mobility, and community space.

We will expand the Rupert building with a range of new units, growing our community from 350 to 500 residents. We will provide a mix of one bedroom and studio apartments with appropriate affordable rent for each.
For years, our residents and their families have expressed a desire for Hopehill to offer on-site health services to support seniors with reduced mobility. The new Rupert building will be designed to include a full doctor’s office and pharmacy.
Additionally, we want to support our residents’ quality of life by providing accessible shops and services right outside their front door.
Many of our residents find great joy in engaging with community programs and services. We want to expand these opportunities by inviting the community in to use our space with programs and events that both residents and community members can enjoy.

When I think of the word “legacy”, several things dear to my heart come to mind. I consider my own children, the years my wife and I spent raising them, and the adults and parents that they themselves have become. I think of my grandchildren and what they will remember when they look back on the time spent with us. And then I also think of what opportunities I still have to influence their futures and the futures of even their children for the better.
The founders of Hopehill (formerly Beulah Garden Homes) knew a thing or two about legacy. While they were certainly working to address the immediate needs of their day, they also knew that by investing in the lives and needs of local seniors they were building a community that would impact generations of people they would never get to meet. In fact, since we opened our doors in 1951, over 2,500 seniors have called Hopehill home, and many more yet will for years to come.
Throughout our history, Hopehill has always sought to further the mandate and legacy of our founders by addressing the changing needs of Vancouver seniors. We have expanded our footprint with the Beechwood, Charles Bentall, and Rupert buildings, and offered new assisted living services at the Cedars residence. We have also sought to provide more affordable living options for younger seniors, by offering life-leases at our Aspen Green building.
Now, we are looking to grow yet again by providing 150 additional housing units, adding a large community gathering space for concerts, town hall meetings, and provide better space for on-site medical care offices and services. We are confident that with these new facilities we will be better equipped to serve the growing seniors population in Vancouver.

Hopehill is committed to providing compassionate care and housing for seniors of all faiths, traditions and backgrounds. We are proud to have a strong board, a capable leadership team, and regular resident community feedback which ensures the highest level of administrative and fiscal responsibility.
Our Board of Directors consists of ten community members who hold terms of 3-6 years. The Board meets quarterly to review financials and provide strategic oversight to Hopehill’s management.
Reporting to the Board, Hopehill’s CEO and management team work to uphold our vision and mission. Each of Hopehill’s 75 staff members is also encouraged to have a voice in operations so that nothing gets overlooked.
Hopehill is home to 350 residents in five unique buildings. As a point of pride, we always make sure that our residents are informed and take an active role in the plans for our future, hosting regular town halls to gather feedback from residents, adjusting when necessary.
With our roots firmly planted in Christian faith, we are also proud to be supported by and affiliated with the Canadian Baptists of Western Canada (CBWC).
