Hopehill is more than affordable housing for seniors. It is a place of belonging, where people are known, valued, and supported by friendship, understanding, and grace.
Meet Jacques. When Jacques first decided to visit the campus four years ago, he discovered a community that immediately felt like home. Jacques shares, “I discovered that this place is a place of restoration, of healing, and of course, being you.”
Not long after moving into our Beechwood Residence, Jacques met Serge, a longtime member of our facilities team. Jacques noticed that Serge spoke French—Jacques’s first language—and an easy connection formed. Serge helped Jacques meet neighbours and find his footing during hardship.
“He would be there to encourage me,” Jacques says. “Just to say, ‘keep on keeping on.’ Those were my anchor points. And over time, we grew into a great friendship.”
“When I first met him, he was very down,” Serge recalls. “But I told him, ‘This will be okay. Nothing lasts forever. Things move forward. Have faith.’ We gave each other courage just by continuing the conversation.”
Serge has been part of Hopehill for 20 years and knows his job is more than building maintenance. He believes deeply that this work is a calling. “It’s about people,” Serge says, “It’s about listening. Being present. Offering a shoulder when someone needs one. When you can do that, you make a difference.”
These quiet, faithful moments—listening, encouragement, compassion—are what make Hopehill a true community. And they are only possible because of support from people like you.
With just over one month remaining, we are nearing the end of our Double Your Impact campaign, and we humbly ask for your help.
